Testaccio
A quarter between ancient and modern

The program:
- 10:00 Your english speaking guide is going to meet you at your Hotel. Departure from your hotel to reach Testaccio with taxi (to be paid from the client).
- 10:30 – 13:00 Testaccio district has always been one of the hearts of roman working class districts and traditionally suited to commerce and trades. The name itself comes from Monte Testaccio, an artificial hill grown during the ancient imperial age by the the remains of broken clay vessels (testaceum) were stacked. In fact all of the area was charaterized by commercial building and some of their ruins are still visible, walking through its streets. Since 1935 the district was again strictly linked to the food, when a market was opened, becoming one of the most famous in Rome for fresh goods and typical roman street food. A food-tour in Testaccio is the best way to feel a touch of everydaylife in Rome, discovering and tasting the roots of roman traditional cooking art. The tour is also available for vegetarians.
