Cooking lesson and dinner at Il Maccherone with Sabrina

A cookery experience in a small countryside restaurant

Sabrina Somigli was born in 1975 in Florence. Daughter of two restaurant owners, the kitchen has been her nursery, and her lifelong experience in this environment has sustained her profound interest and love for all things relating to food.
During Sabrina’s university career, she studied nutritional supplements and fatty acids chemistry, getting a degree in Agricultural Biotechnology and a PHD in Microbiology.
In 2001 Sabrina’s decision to return to her real passion for cooking, led her to refine her skills by attending various cooking courses. In 2004 she began working full time in her parents restaurant, both as chef assistant and waitress. She had experience in the Slow Food initiative, using and promoting local florentine products, during her week’s employment as a chef, in autumn 2008 at the “Salone del gusto” exhibition in Torino. In 2009 she co-wrote a series of 16 cookery supplements commissioned by the national daily newspaper “Repubblica”.

Il Maccherone is a small trattoria situated in the countryside, 20 minutes from Florence. Sabrina’s parents opened the trattoria in 1971, and have worked hard to establish the good reputation it now enjoys. The aim of the restaurant is to preserve the genuine flavours of years gone by, using top quality local products in both traditional and innovative ways. The warm welcome extended by the Somigli family, ensures that every guest feels at home in their trattoria.

Cookery lessons at “Il maccherone” will be available on Monday and Tuesday afternoons and on Tuesday mornings . Sabrina will offer 3 hours of full immersion in traditional tuscan cooking. She will teach the tricks of the trade and how to get the best results out of raw ingredients, enabling you to produce good italian food on your return home. At the end of the lesson you will sit down to enjoy the food prepared together, accompanied by good local wines.
